Plastic Tree Guards

L-S Industries offers two types of tree guards now.  Our single-face corrugated plastic guards are the best in the industry.  We now offer a more economical wrap for those that just need some basic protection.  Read more about each wrap below.

1. Single-face Corrugated Plastic Wraps

Corrugated plastic is an excellent product for protecting young trees.  This product helps protect trees from a variety of dangers.  The first few years of growth are important and using our plastic tree guards will help them grow to their full potential.

With any tree wrap, trees should be inspected regularly to prevent any issues that pop up from getting worse.  Trees need to go dormant in the winter months so slightly loosening the wraps may be necessary, depending on your area, to allow the cold air to spur dormancy.

The white/black corrugated plastic tree guard serves two main purposes:Corrugated plastic tree wraps

  1. Protect the tree trunk: this product serves to protect younger in-ground trees as well as tree trunks during transport.  Used on younger trees planted in ground, these tree guards protect against wind damage, sun scald, animal damage (i.e. deer, rodents, etc.), herbicide spraying, and more.  Deer feed on young trees, especially fruit and nut trees.  Deer also use larger saplings to rub velvet from their antlers, also ruining the tree trunks (see photos below).  When used as a transport wrap they provide excellent protection from anything rubbing up against the trunk.  They are also weather-resistant so trees can be watered and/or get rained on without deteriorating the wrap.  It's a worth-while investment to make sure your trees arrive to your customer in a way that reflects your nursery's quality.

  2. Keep the tree base cool and dark:  The white exterior and black interior helps reflect the heat away from the tree trunk and keep it dark and cooler inside the wrap.  This feature also helps reduce sucker sprout growth at the tree base.  This is especially helpful on Citrus and Filbert, or hazelnut, trees where sucker sprouts need to be pruned off to help shape the trees.

2. Solid Plastic Wraps

These wraps are made from the same recyclable HDPE as the single-face wraps but do not have the corrugated, or fluted, layer and therefore cost less.

The all black solid plastic tree guard has many of the same advantages:

  2. Keep the tree base cool and dark:  While these wraps do not have the white exterior, the black color does still keep it dark inside the wrap which helps to reduce sucker sprout growth at the tree base.  Again, this is especially helpful on Citrus and Filbert, or hazelnut, trees where sucker sprouts need to be pruned off to help shape the trees.

These solid wraps are available in black and green and are excellent for keeping herbicides off of blueberry plants and other fruiting bushes that need to grow up tall instead of out wide.

The minimum order on all wrap sizes is one pallet.  If you'd like order any of the nursery stock sizes in smaller quantities please do so here.

Our tree guards are individually cut and bundled in packs according to your needs, no more lugging large sheets out in the field and having to tear off the tree guards from a larger sheet.  This is helpful both in the field and for resale or distribution.

The 4" wide wrap covers trees with a diameter smaller than 1" (this wrap is primarily used for braided Azaleas and trees with very thin trunks), the 8" wide wraps cover trees 2 1/4" in diameter and smaller, the 12" wide wraps protect trees up to 3 1/2" in diameter, and an 18" wraps cover trees up to 5 1/2" in diameter.

These wraps are easy to install with simple twist ties or cable ties.  Here are the twist tie sizes we recommend for each wrap: 4"w = 6"-8" tie, 8"w = 10"-12" tie, 12"w = 14"-16" tie.  Click here for some different tie options.

Citrus Tree Guards

These corrugated plastic tree guards have been proven in the Florida Citrus industry for decades.  They are also used in California and other citrus producing states.  The single-face corrugated plastic tree guards can be used for multiple seasons where other options available are more of a shorter term solution.

In addition to helping newly planted citrus trees from the damages mentioned above, the white/black composition of the wrap also reduces sucker sprout growth at the base of the tree which is beneficial in creating clearance for mechanical harvesting.  Choose which size works best for your grove; 14"x8", 16"x8", 18"x8", or 20"x8".

All of our tree guards and other agricultural products are made in the U.S.A. and are comprised from at least 50% post-industrial material.  We recycle all the scrap generated in our plant and encourage our customers to do the same to limit their overall impact on the environment.  This corrugated plastic is fully recyclable HDPE (RIS code 2).

We also offer harvest totes and corrugated plastic by the roll.  Contact us for more details.  Click here for a downloadable .pdf on these products.
